The Tiger Who Came to Tea老虎来喝下午茶

Once there was a little girl called Sophie, and she was having tea with her mummy in the kitchen.
从前， 有个叫Sophie的小女孩正在厨房，和她的妈妈一起喝下午茶。

Suddenly there was a ring at the door.
突然，门铃响了起来。

Sophie’s mummy said, "I wonder who that can be.
Sophie的妈妈说：“让我想想，会是谁在按门铃？”

It can’t be the milkman because he came this morning.
不可能是送牛奶的人，因为他早上来过了。

And it can’t be the boy from the grocer because this isn’t the day he comes.
不可能是超市送货的男孩，因为今天不是他会来的日子。

And it can’t be Daddy because he’s got his key.
也不可能是爸爸，因为，他有自己的钥匙。

We’d better open the door and see."
我们最好还是开门看一下吧。”

Sophie opened the door, and there was a big, furry, stripy tiger.
Sophie 打开了门，一只硕大的，毛茸茸的，还有着条纹的大老虎站在那里。

The tiger said, "Excuse me, but I’m very hungry. Do you think I could have tea with you?"
老虎说：“打扰了，我真的好饿，你能让我和你们一起喝下午茶吗？”

Sophie’s mummy said, "Of course, come in."
Sophie的妈妈说，当然，快请进。

So the tiger came into the kitchen and sat down at the table.
老虎来到了厨房，在餐桌旁坐下。

Sophie’s mummy said, "Would you like a sandwich?"
Sophie的妈妈问道：“你想要吃一个三明治吗？”

But the tiger didn’t just take. He took all the sandwiches on the plate and swallowed them in one big mouthful.
不过，老虎不只吃了一个三明治。他把所有的三明治，一口吞了下去.

嗷呜！

And he still looked hungry, so Sophie passed him the buns.
可是，他还是看起来很饿。所以Sophie又把包子递给了他。

But again the tiger didn’t eat just one bun.
老虎又一次不止吃了一个包子。

He ate all the buns on the dish.
他把盘子里所有的包子都吃光了。

And then he ate all the biscuits and all the cake, until there was nothing left to eat on the table.
然后，他又吃光了所有的饼干, 直到桌上什么都不剩了。

So Sophie’s mummy said, "Would you like a drink?"
Sophie的妈妈问道，你想要喝点什么饮料吗？

And the tiger drank all the milk in the milk jug and all the tea in the teapot.
老虎喝光了罐子里所有的牛奶，还有茶壶里所有的茶。

And then he looked round the kitchen to see what else he could find.
老虎开始在厨房里四处打量，看看还有什么能吃的食物。

He ate all the supper that was cooking in the saucepans…
他吃光了所有的正在锅子里煮的晚餐……

…and all the food in the fridge,
所有冰箱里的食物，

…and all the packets and tins in the cupboard…
所有柜子里的零食和罐头…

…and he drank all the milk,
他喝光了所有的牛奶，

and all the orange juice,
所有的橘子汁，

and all Daddy’s beer,
爸爸所有的啤酒，

and all the water in the tap.
和水龙头里所有的水。

Then he said, “Thank you for my nice tea. I think I’d better go now.”
终于，老虎说，谢谢你们的下午茶，我想我该走了。

And he went.
然后他就离开了。

Sophie’s mummy said, “I don’t know what to do. I’ve got nothing for Daddy’s supper, the tiger has eaten it all.”
Sophie的妈妈说，我不知道怎么办了，爸爸什么晚餐都没有了，老虎把所有的东西都吃了。

And Sophie found she couldn’t have her bath because the tiger had drunk all the water in the tap.
Sophie也发现，她不能泡澡了，因为老虎喝光了水龙头里所有的水。

Just then Sophie’s daddy came home.
就在这个时候，爸爸回家了。

So Sophie and her mummy told him what had happened, and how the tiger had eaten all the food and drunk all the drink.
Sophie和妈妈告诉了爸爸发生的事情，老虎吃光喝光了家里所有的东西。

So Sophie’s daddy said, “I know what we’ll do. I’ve got a very good idea. We’ll put on our coats and go to a cafe.”
Sophie的爸爸说，我知道我们该怎么做了，我有了一个好办法。我们都把外套穿起来，出去吃饭吧。

So they went out in the dark, and all the street lamps were lit, and all the cars had their lights on, and they walked down the road to a cafe.
于是他们趁着夜色出门了，街灯都已经亮了起来，所有的车子都把车灯打开来了。他们沿着路，走进了一家咖啡馆。

And they had a lovely supper with sausages and chips and ice cream.
他们一起享用了一顿丰盛的晚餐。香肠，薯条，还有冰淇淋。

In the morning Sophie and her mummy went shopping and they bought lots more things to eat.
第二天早上， Sophie和妈妈去购物了, 他们买了更多的食物。

And they also bought a very big tin of Tiger Food, in case the tiger should come to tea again.
同时，他们还买了一个超大罐的老虎专属食物，这样如果下次老虎来喝下午茶的时候，就可以吃了。

But he never did.
不过，老虎再也没有来过。
